Artistry
There is an intensity within each of Jennie Moncur's tapestries, which has come together through the implicit link between process and expression.
Her ‘jigsaw’ compositions, comprising large areas of single intensive colour juxtapose complex foliage and flora and areas of simple pattern. These images are very precisely placed together, resulting in a deliberate play on perspective.
Each textile tells us that we rarely see things as a whole, but the interruption of one image by another can teases our sense of perspective and result in something quite joyous to behold.
Technique
Moncur's tapestries demonstrate her characteristic love of material and colour. Wool, mohair, linen, silk and cotton yarns are used for the meticulous process of hand weaving.
The weaving is fine and densely compacted ensuring intense colour, as well as exploiting the rich characteristics of these fine textiles.
Tapestries are available from the artist's collection or can be made to commission
